History
A local man, Greg Balfour , has dedicated much of his time to improving the quality of life for disadvantaged and disabled children and adults on the coast. 15 years ago the charity Sport and Leisure for the Handicapped Assoc. Inc. was formed. The organisation takes disadvantaged and disabled persons out fishing and or cruising on a regular basis. Sport & leisure for the Handicapped receives no funding, and as such, actively fund-raises the local area through raffles and donations.
The River to Reef fishing classic is designed to engage the whole community in supporting Sport and Leisure for the Handicapped. By staging these events the organisation has raised funds and procured a new vessel (that we have designed and which provides wheel chair access and improved safety features) to ensure the disabled and disadvantaged people we take out fishing each day receive the best possible experience, appropriate care and are able to enjoy it in a safe environment.
The primary target of this event is to raise the funds required to cover the substantial maintenance and service costs of this vessel. This will enable us to provide on water excursions for those less fortunate than most of us. We provide services between Hervey Bay and the Gold Coast.
Donations are always welcomed so any contributions to this project will be most appreciated.
